"One of the great NY area bands of that time was the Secret Service. Though there were other great Mod bands in the area (especially the mighty Mod Fun, who worked more on the Pop Art side of things), The Secret Service brought back the sounds of UK R&B circa 1964. They were a shit-hot live band and had extremely good taste in covers. One of those covers was a tune called ‘Lovin’ Machine’". Larry Grogan Funky16Corners

THE STROLLERS - Falling right down (1999)

@ 320 kbps - Covers are included

1. Let Me Come On In 2. Bad Situation 3. I Fell Right Down 4. Little Cheater 5. Won't Stand It 6. Get Lost Child 7. I Saw It Coming 8. Lies 9. Tell Me Tell Me 10. She'll Be Mine 11. Memories

From Sweden, the Strollers are among the most accomplished emulators of 1960s American garage punk in the early 21st century with the petulant yet aggressive vocals, ominous wiry guitar fuzz riffs, keening Farfisa organ, and more of a sense of pop hooks and vocal harmonies than many revivalists feature. The band's first album, Falling Right Down is all edge. The Strollers are an assault force.

THE BAMBOO KIDS - FEEL LIKE HELL

@ 320 kbps - Covers are included

1. Reveille 2. If I Had My Way 3. I'm Ready 4. Heartattack 5. Low Life 6. Child Prodigy 7. Radio Rebel 8. USA out of NYC 9. Eternal War 10. Palpitations 11. Take What's Mine 12. Say It Ain't So 13. Ain't No Fun 14. Rock 'N' Roll Soldier

New York City's Bamboo Kids seem to be one of only a few bands that have no wall dividing their hearts from their music. No wall dividing gutter fun from social conscience. Cheap booze and sex share the same space in their world as Iraq and civil rights. The Bamboo Kids have taken the celebrated garage rawness and injected it into a much fuller and more powerful sound. There is no filler on this album, only rock and roll at its finest. Fourteen rabid songs that make America's idea of heaven feel like hell and hell like a place you just might want to go on a Saturday night.

Mono and his crew can take almost any 60's tune and turn it into pure, souled-out gold!

MAGIC CHRISTIAN

@ 320 kbps - Covers are included

1. Too Close To Zero 2. Things She Said 3. Here She Comes 4. Right Back Where I Started 5. She's So Good 6. No Time To Cry 7. My Gal 8. Some Day Soon 9. Flash 10. Ride The Light 11. Till I Looked In Her Eyes 12. Angel 13. I Can See For Miles

Ex-Flamin' Groovie Cyril Jordan and perhaps the best rhythm section in San Francisco, Alec Palao on bass and drummer Prairie Prince (Tubes, Chris Isaak, etc.), join forces with singer Paul Kopf, to put out a great set of mostly original 60's-influenced pop tunes. The most obvious influences are the Beatles ("No Time To Cry", "Things She Said") and Stones ("Too Close To Zero", "Angel", "She's So Good"), but, as in the case of Jordan's best work with the Groovies, his songs sound like classics from 40 years ago that you're familiar with, even if you're just hearing them for the first time.

Ps: the original CD also includes a live performance. I will not upload it. If you like what you heard, don't hesitate to buy the CD

01 - Stop Teasing Me Now 02 - Heater 03 - Do Your Homework 04 - I Met Someone 05 - Rock-O-Matic 06 - Photograph 07 - Don’t Ever Tell Me 08 - Radio Radio

The Japanese rock band Supersnazz, named after the Flaming Groovies song, formed in 1990 with Spike on vocals, Tomoko on bass, Kanako on guitar and Skinnie Minnie on drums. In 1993 they released Superstupid! on Sub Pop. In 1994 Skinnie Minnie left the band, and Hisayo, formerly of the Sleez Sisters, joined. In 1997 they released their second album Devil Youth Blues on the Osaka based indie Time Bomb. Later that year came another drummer change, and this time Shoe from Teengenerate came aboard, becoming the first male member. In 1998 Supersnazz released their third album Diode City, and in 1999 The Barbarockets both on Time Bomb. In 2001 the band released Rock-O-Matic from Loft Records, and performed at the Las Vegas Shakedown.

Ps: Supernazz covered "Lookin' for a kiss" on the Japanese tribute to Johnny THUNDERS, Valley of the Tokyo Dolls, and our good friend CURTY RAY from the ever so brilliant PowerPop Overdose had the very good idea to provide us with a link to this excellent rock'n'roll compilation, so don't forget to check the comments to this post.

The Quick released one full-length album, 1976's Mondo Deco on Mercury Records, produced by Earle Mankey, the original guitarist of Sparks (formerly Halfnelson), one of the band's key influences. From September 1977 through March 1978, the band recorded demos produced by established Elektra Records staff arranger David Campbell. One of those tracks, "Pretty Please Me", was played frequently by local KROQ DJ Rodney Bingenheimer on his weekly "Rodney On the ROQ" radio show in 1978. The song was later covered and officially released by both Redd Kross and The Dickies.

This is what Rickyboy (a.k.a Eric KNOXX, a.k.a Ricky THUNDERS, a.ka. The man with the white Jaguar ) said about this record : "In 2002, the second LP, «FOR BOSOMANIACS ONLY», kinda visual tribute to RUSS MEYER, was only released on vinyl on DEMOLITION DERBY. Despite such fine tracks as "Mustang driving woman" or "American Revolution" nobody was really happy with this record as far as the sound was concerned. I spent hours and hours in the studio trying to fix the drum sound but is was crappy right from the start and there was no way to set it right".

You'd think from the cover that this band is a long lost hair metal band from the 80s. "Long lost" and "80s" are correct, but the music this British band made was basically power pop, catchy, melodic and infectious. That most of the music on this CD didn't come out when the band existed is no surprise: hair metal fans would be disappointed by the songs' upbeat, poppy tone and lack of sleaze, while power poppers would be turned off by the group's appearance. Too bad for them - they deserved better. At least now fans of singalong power pop can discover this minor gem.
