THE PLEASERS

THE PLEASERS (1977)

With their smart suits and ability to actually play their instruments The Pleasers were at the forefront of the new wave of guitar-based groups that swept through the Britain’s music industry in the late 70’ S. They wrote and performed great songs with superb harmonies, jangling guitars and pure sixties drum fills, and their live shows brought back the fashion for being surrounded by cool guys wearing thin ties and screaming mini skirted girls. As proud Londoners, the group described their sound as Thamesbeat but you might know it better by the name their music was given by press of the time: Powerpop.

On a strict diet of pizza, beer and The Ramones, The Star Spangles got their stuff together to record a single. "I Can't Be With You" was issued on the Spanish label, Munster and shortly thereafter, the rowdy foursome impressed the majors. Capitol inked them a deal in summer 2002 and after three U.K. tours, The Star Spangles headed into the studio to work with Ramones producer Daniel Rey. The end result was the sweltering, rough-edged debut Bazooka!!!, which appeared in August 2003. ~ MacKenzie Wilson, All Music Guide

THE PINKZ

THE PINKZ

In Wav. front cover included

The Pinkz deliver a helluva a rock 'n' roll package. The first side jumps right into a ballsy cover of the BEAT's "USA." The flip side has these SoCal girls doing justice to TEENAGE HEAD's "You're Tearing Me Apart." Both songs have the same qualities of pure, unadulterated, catchy, 100% American rock 'n' roll.

Hailing from Ann Arbor, Michigan, The Avatars formed in May 2003. The album “Never A Good Time” was released on No Fun Records in 2006. It documents the band’s intense live sound while adding to it with a mix of local Detroit talent from the likes of John Szymanski (SSM, The Hentchmen) on piano and organ, Eric Stollsteimer (The Elevations, Mondo Mod) on vibes, and Jeremy Abbey (Superdot) on saxophone. The record bristles with up-beat pop energy on songs like the title track “Never A Good Time,” as well as rockers “Sooner Or Later,” and an updated version of “Wait.” If you dig NIKKI CORVETTE and the Stingrays or THE DETROIT COBRAS, this is right up your alley.

The Rubinoos - Everything You Always Wanted to Know About... - Box set part.3

@ 320 kbps - Covers are included

Disc: 3 1. Intro/Rockin' in the Jungle [Live] 2. Wouldn't It Be Nice [Live] 3. Peek-A-Boo [Live] 4. Hard to Get [Live] 5. Hey Royse [Live] 6. I Never Thought It Would Happen [Live] 7. Fallin' in Love [Live] 8. I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend [Live] 9. I Think We're Alone Now [Live] 10. Rock and Roll Is Dead [Live] 11. Sugar Sugar [Live] 12. Pushin' Too Hard [Live]

Disc three features an entire vintage concert, recorded in 1978 at London's Hammersmith Odeon. In addition to Rubinoos originals (including the otherwise unavailable "Hey Royse"), the band reaches back to their roots as a cover band, singing a cappella on "Rockin' in the Jungle," and jamming on bubblegum's national anthem, "Sugar Sugar." The latter even manages to quote "Smoke on the Water" and "Downtown" before invoking an audience sing-along! The show closes with a 6-minute cover of The Seeds "Pushin' Too Hard," and the disc ends with a a cover of "96 Tears." As tightly controlled as the Rubinoos were on disc, they were equally exhilarating on stage, able to reproduce their harmonies in concert and summon up great rock 'n' roll energy.

If My Car Could Only Talk 18. Heroes and Villains 19. You Started It 20. Too Sweet 21. In the Worst Way 22. Someday 23. I Think We're Alone Now [Live] 24. I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend [Live]

Disc two adds additional rarities from "Garage Sale" (including a great cover of The Raspberries "Cruisin' Music") and tracks that were demoed for a never-completed third group album. These latter tracks, including "Hurts Too Much" and "Hit the Nerve," are a truer continuation of the earlier albums than the Rundgren-produced "Party of Two" (which was credited as a Rubinoos release, but only included Rubin and Dunbar). Also on the second disc are selections from the group's more recent releases, "Paleophonic," "Crimes Against Music," and "Twist Pop Sin." The all-covers "Crimes" offers up moving versions of The Eurythmics "Thorn in My Side" and Todd Rundgren's "There Goes My Inspiration," and a superb Four Seasons styled take on the obscure Lou Christie tune, "If My Car Could Only Talk."

This reissue expands upon the band's fantastic 1980 Bomp LP, "Hypstrization!" (recently posted at TWILIGHTZONE!) with 18 additional live selections from the same pair of nights at Jay's Longhorn. These extra tracks include more garage-ified soul/funk tunes ("Hold on I'm Coming" "Papa's Got a Brand New Bag"), Nuggets/Pebbles standards ("Action Woman" "Sometimes Good Guys Don't Wear White"), well-picked British Invasion winners ("Come See Me" "66-5-4-3-2-1" and "I'm Not Talking"), rockabilly rave-ups (Eddie Cochran's "C'mon Everybody"), and some '60s chart oddities (Sgt. Barry Sandler's "Ballad of the Green Berets" and The Shangri-Las "Remember (Walking in the Sand"). Closing out the collection is a trio of live tracks waxed in 2004 (including a stomping of The Sonics' "The Witch"), proving that the band rocks just as frenetically now as they did twenty-five years ago.

"On Fyre" is a Matador reissue of the of the Lyres 1982 debut album on Boston's homegrown Ace of Hearts label. "On Fyre" is arguably one of the most significant albums of the post-punk garage movement. Monoman's choppy Vox Continental organ is the signature sound of the Lyres. The snarling vocals, the punky Danelectro guitar and the flat un-miked drum sound suggested a time tunnel back to the mid-sixties heyday of true garage bands.

This cd re-issue is a total piece of bliss as it includes the mandatory first "lost" album which never had a chance to be released. Here it is now making this object an absolute must to have. The early Lyres favourites are there from "Help you Ann" to "She pays the rent ", these first renditions of those classic Lyres songs are just fascinating,The Lyres must have been a band with about a hundred different line-ups in their twenty years of existence.. Here you have the legendary line-up, with the great Pete Greenberg (ex-DMZ) on lead guitar and Howie Ferguson (on leave from the Real Kids) on drums. Of course all the Lyres records are good but this one is just perfect !!

V.A. tribute album - "This Ain’t The Plimsouls"

ZERO HOUR RECORDS has managed to get a group of bands who seem to understand the whole point behind the wonderful power (and powerful) pop of the Plimsouls and the result is a totally great record in which some of the re-interpretations actually have something to offer without dumping the original idea. Lots of good bands like Chopper, the Kryptonics, Chevelles and Droogs, but even some of the lesser names shine.

The PLIMSOULS : "One night in America"

You just need to hear the Plimsouls live to really appreciate how good this band really was. This show, from a 1981 gig, highlights the band at its raw best - live in concert! It wouldn't do this disc justice to mention highlights as the ENTIRE disc rocks from start to finish. If you're a Plimsouls fan or a fan of the L.A. punk scene of the early 80's you will NOT be disappointed. Turn the dial up on this baby. This thing cranks!

1. Hush Hush 2:37

2. Now 2:55

3. How Long Will It Take 2:55

4. I Want What You Got 3:22

5. A Million Miles Away 4:12

6. Time Won't Let Me 2:49

7. In This Town 2:36

8. One More Heartache 2:30

9. Help Yourself 3:30

10. Ill Get Lucky 2:55

11. Dizzy Miss Lizzy 3:01

12. Come On Now 3:31
