2010 debut album from the Jackson, Mississippi-based band. Marsh and Daphne Nabors, guitar and bass, have been playing out as Overnight Lows ever since their previous band, The Comas, imploded in early 1995. Playing everything "in the key of Hep C," the Overnight Lows mix a sick and sickened attitude with a classic Angry Samoans/Queers aesthetic: establish a blazing guitar riff, yell some memorable antisocial blather over it, hit a chorus, and get out. Who has time for anything else these days? Overnight Lows aren't going to waste your time attempting to show you the path to enlightenment or the way to your lover's heart. They'd rather show you the door. Melodies? Sure, kinda, but more like rhythmic chants to accompany you on your third trip back to the liquor store.

If it's possible to bring a freshness to stale commercial rock and roll being stamped out of the mill, these boys are doing it. That the Screwtop Detonators have an eye and ear for rock'n'roll shall never be in question - especially if you cop a listen to the band's album 3,2,1 I'm Done. It's apparent from the opening rumbling rhythms of God Knows, replete with the type of pub rock nihilism that breathes within the finest of Australian rock'n'roll. It looks you square in the eye in the power pop meets speedway rock on See You Cryin', thumps you in the midriff in the album's stand out rock'n'roll track, Anvil, and slaps you down in the final track, Transparent. Add to that the Eastern Dark surf and turf edge of Be around, and the picture is just about complete.

NoBunny is a guy who strums out gravity-free pep pills while wearing skivvies and a bunny mask. When that’s the frontman, soul-baring confessions and experiments aren’t going to happen. Mr. NoBunny plays rock ‘n’ roll, not rock. This record is concise and absurd. Like all good rock ‘n’ roll, the songs won’t say much about the person performing them, at least not directly. In our please-think-about-me world, wearing a mask without any particular desire to be anonymous is a feat unto itself. The type of songs Mr. NoBunny makes are forever associated with the 1950s, even if rock regularly resets the clock to this kind of thing.

On their first album, this now-defunct San Diego quintet puts down groovy, authentic-sounding garage punk with convincing '60s clumsiness and sincerity. Any band that covers a song ("All Black and Hairy") by Screamin' Lord Sutch is already a few rungs up the cool ladder; the Gravediggers further add to the fun with a singer who fairly approximates the legendary T.S. Bonniwell and perfectly evocative arrangements and licks. If All Black and Hairy were 20 years older, it would now be a collectors' item. Perhaps with that future possibility in mind, the first side of The Mirror Cracked consists of rehearsals and perfectly serviceable outtakes (mostly covers; one track features Paula Pierce of the Pandoras) from All Black and Hairy. The lo-fi live side, from a 1984 gig, repeats three of the same songs, including the title song and the cool "Be a Caveman." (Trousers Press)

The Flipsides retain enough of the "punk" sound on their album to avoid sounding like the cheesy "powerpop-bands-that-like-to-pretend-they're-punk-bands" that pervade the mainstream music industry. Sabrina's guitar and vocals really shine. If you like The Eyeliners, you'd probably enjoy The Flipsides as well.

On Black Pistol Fire's eponymous debut, the former Toronto duo of Kevin McKeown (guitar/vox) and Eric Owen (skins) recruited Jim Diamond to transform its South Austin garage rock into an urban beatdown back in Detroit, where the producer's early work with the White Stripes and long tenure in the Dirtbombs ups the ante from local Chili Cold Blood and guts to smoking gun powder burns. A spidery guitar break on opener "Cold Sun" and McKeown's end flourish on "Jezebel Stomp" loosen aural pheromones leading to a Red River rumble on "Your Not the Only One," though it's the roundhouse wallop of "Black Eyed Susan" backed by the cymbal splash and guitar sirens of "Silent Blue" that sets Black Pistol Fire rolling and tumbling toward the last third of the LP.

Considering that in 1992 the Chesterfield Kings were a glam rock band and the Fuzztones were watering down their 1960s influences and playing up to the gothic/rock crowd, the Mystreated's "purist" folk-rock and 1966 garage-punk tendencies gave Pebbles fans the world over something to hold onto. 10 Boss Cuts could have quite easily been recorded in a back-room studio in 1966 by a pimply faced inept bunch of teenagers trying to emulate their heroes. (And for a garage band aiming for the traditional approach, this is a compliment.) Billy Childish's amateurish lo-fi (read "crappy"!) production adds a rawness and non-'90s feel to the album with crunchy guitars, and drums that sound real, adding a gritty backbone to Ratcliffe's whining, drawled vocals. The Mystreated soon progressed, but this album fully achieved recreating the spirit of '60s garage. Although many other garage bands were releasing records in 1992, very few others captured the essence of their heroes as well as this. If a song like "There's a Time" had been released in 1966, it would be now viewed as a garage classic.

for that garage feel with harmonies “Before You Go Away” is another winner. The band is pretty consistent here, and for the most part we get mainly fast paced tunes with a few mid-tempo ones (like “Drop By And Stay”). The Beatles-style Rickenbacker arpeggio dominates “Take It All Back,” and it’s another keeper here.

The Hormones were formed in London in 1995. The band were to release 5 singles which were all met with acclaim but little commercial success.Things started to look up when US Sitcom
'Friends' used B-Side Track, 'Tired Old Souls' in an episode. They were subsequently asked to appear in an episode (playing the wedding band at x and y's wedding). This appearance led to a flood of interest in the band which left them in an optimistic mood for the future and the release of their debut album.The 'Where Old Ghosts Meet' album was recorded in 1998. However, problems at the record label meant that on the day that the album was released, the band were dropped from their record label. The band went on to tour Europe in1999 before Marc Carroll decided to split the band and went solo for a successful career ! Make sure to check "Mr Wilson" what a great song that is and worth alone the download.

The story of the '90s Memphis underground begins and ends with three guys, Jeff Evans, Jack Yarber, and Greg Cartwright (aka Jack Oblivion and Greg Oblivion). They figure heavily in the lineups of the bands appearing here, from the Gibson Bros.' happily raw cover of Rex Garvin's "Emulsified," to all The Oblivions-named stuff, to the Compulsive Gamblers' "Bad Taste," which, with its delightfully warbling vocals and whizzing organ runs is a pretty good primer of the funky white-man-sound of the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion. (Spencer once played with the Gibson Bros.). "Honey, I'm Too Old" is an old, surprisingly heartfelt Sympathy for the Record Industry side of Jack Oblivion's, while the Cool Jerks' "For a Little While" lurches and roars with boozy, glammy ardor. A cool Dick Dale-influenced instrumental from Impala offers a brief respite from all the swaggerin' and bloozy punk bluster, before Lorette Velvette's one-note electro boogie plunges you right back in it with the '60s update barn dance come-on of "Don't Crowd Your Mind." The Neckbones ("Eyeful") turn everything to 12 and pour beer on the mic, while the Satyrs' "Johnny Rebel" harbors a similar disrespect for eardrums. The ambitiously-named King Louie the 69th & the Harahan Crack Combo closes out the comp with the naughty trash overdrive of "Jailbait." This much is true: it isn't robbing liquor stores that knocked this King off his throne. In the end, History of Memphis Garage Rock is really more like a box of greasy Polaroids than a historical timeline. Clovis proceeded to record demos in order to get his engineering chops down, never intending to make an album. "Most of the songs were written in a two week period just to give myself material to engineer. I usually didn't finish the words until I was forced to do the vocals. KING MOB is a London based supergroup comprising of guitar legend Chris Spedding (Roxy Music, Elton John, John Cale, Paul McCartney), Glen Matlock - bass (Sex Pistols, Iggy Pop, Faces), Martin Chambers – drums (Pretenders), Stephen W Parsons aka Snips – vocals (film composer and vocalist of legendary 70’s band Sharks) and introducing hot new guitar talent Sixteen.
Recorded in four days, the album shows a band at the height of their powers. The use of both keyboards and saxophone work well, and bursts of slide guitar make sure the rocks really do roll.

Veteran Detroit soulman Mayer had a brief taste of success in the early '60s as a teenage hit-maker, but his subsequent career has been built on his outrageous live act. Mayer, however, has a lot more going on than just his well-seasoned showmanship, as his first album in decades enjoyably demonstrates. Mayer's aggressive soul stylings are reinforced by a rocking garage-funk band that is as raw and real as the extroverted singer is, and the combination is certifiably combustible. Seven of the 10 tunes are Mayer's and most, such as "Stick It or Lick It," approach the trials and tribulations of romance from a decidedly adult perspective. The hard-driving funk of "I Wanna Dance with You" has spiky guitar punctuation over churning organ and some honking sax while "I'm In Love" juxtaposes pop-flavored chiming guitar work with Mayer's rawboned vocal. The Woggles in their own words :"Fractured's release in 2000 combined a number of longtime favorite songs from the Woggles live set, plus a slew of recent tunes road hardened over the past few months prior to recording. Finally making its way onto album is the show finale "Doing the Montague," in which the Gue calls out to the initiated to, "Get together and form a line, make it quick don't waste my time!" It ain't right to keep the big man waiting, especially a man with an appetite. Like he says,"Steak and chicken in breaded suits. Both of these are my favorite food groups!"
While touring Japan in 1999, the Woggles were fortunate to play in Takamatsu. While there, the kids turned the band onto a new version of the number one dance craze of all time with a new twist, the "Takamatsu Twist," that is! Other highlights include rockin' and rollickin' numbers like "Believe Me Little Girl," "Love Is Such A Vise," "You Turn the Hex On Me," plus the Dan Electro penned anthem "No Time To Lose."
On the dancin' side Buzz wants to let all the people know about true southern comfort in "Feelin' the Humidity." The Professor lectures on the proper treatment for celebrities, like the Woggles, in "V.I.P." and all the boys give the great Bobby Freeman a run for his money with a killer version of "C'mon and Swim."
The album winds up with what should be the theme song to Art Bell's radio show "Coast to Coast." Titled the "Kingdom of Nye," the song takes you on an alien abduction through cattle mutilations and ends up in a seperate dimension!"

Really great, natural vocal harmonies, which in this day and age of often strained, forced, snotty or outright screaming vocals is really quite a rare thing, combined with the wonderful Farfisa work and jangly, melodic guitars.

This amazing disc provides the perfect career overview of the inimitable brand of trashy, greasy dance-rock of Virginia-born, Texas-bred voodoo enthusiast Larry Bright, most accurately described by his very own mammy as "my li'l white bastard". Cut primarily in the pre-Beatle era by legendary L.A. producer Bob Keane, Larry is revealed alternately as a way cooler Johnny Rivers, a West Coast Ronnie Hawkins (dig his blistering "Mojo Workout"!), and most often as a more down, definitely dirtier Gary U.S. Bonds (the previously-unreleased "New Orleans" is positively swampy!). Heck, Bright even tried to cash in momentarily on the Surf Rock craze, though his Southern-fried "Surfin' Queen" sounds like it's hanging ten or eleven at the foot of the Mississippi rather than anywhere near Brian Wilson's sandbox.

Meanwhile, Larry more than proves he was, as claimed, Howlin' Wolf trapped inside the body of Pat Boone with an "I'm A Man" which, thanks to ferocious guitaring, cuts to absolute shreds other versions from the era - yes, even The Yardbirds'. As if all this isn't yet recommendation enough, howzabout the unsettlingly bizarre "When I Did The Mashed Potatoes With You" (Drifters on acid, I kid you not) and for real fun, check out Track 16, which begins with Keane ordering Larry, "I want you to write a song right now called The Ugly American". The Headless Horsemen arose out of the ashes of The Tryfles and The Fuzztones. Originally, the final Tryfles’ drummer, Celia Farber, hit the kit, but Dave Ari soon replaced her. Also on board was Chris Cush (who some know from Mojo Guitars and had been in a punk band called The Amps in the early ’80s). For awhile there, the Horsemen were one of the best bands around. They did some great recordings, too: just check the title track, "Can't help but shake" or "Gotta be cool" to be convinced! Get it.

What you have here is the most infectious, uninhibited, unself-conscious, yet utterly timeless, most goddamn pumpin' rock 'n' roll you'll hear this year. With Mink Jaguar you know there's something for everybody. Be it classic power-pop, a touch of 13th Floor Elevators influenced psych, or just straight up garage punk. Yep. These guys play it like they just fell out of the tree!! Which brings me to their latest album: twelve nuggets of unbridled burning err, what I've just described above. Did I mention the impeccable song writing that effortlessly ties in 50's, 60's and 70's cornerstone sounds? Yes friends, these boys remind me of power-pop greats such as The Nerves, the (U.S.) Beat, The Plimsouls, even the almighty Ramones but with an incredible sense of garage punk THUD! It's as if Jonathan Richman bought himself a rhythm section of shaved apes and recorded for Bomp Records!!!

Let me draw your attention to this new band of 3 guys and a very sexy girl (at least, according to the cover). They play some very fine lo-fi garage rock'n'roll. Listening to the various tracks of the E.P. I can hear some great Johnny Thunders riffing but also influences of the JIM JONES REVUE on "My Baby's got x-ray eyes". They also seem to have some sick sense of humor ("A Fuck-U-Shima production" : in my book, this is hilarious!) which in these times of everything must be so politically correct is the true proove of real rock'n'roll.

While the Pacific Northwest may now be quite renowned as a hotbed of rock & roll activity, Portland, OR's the Miracle Workers were wowing the kids with a gigantic, no-holds-barred rock sound that borrowed more from the Sonics and the Wailers than from Hendrix. After a couple of EPs in this vein, Greg Shaw of Bomp! Records recorded them for a less-barbaric but equally aggressive and very fast record, Inside Out, which reigns as the Miracle Workers' most fully realized effort. After numerous members departed, the band shifted its sound yet again, accommodating a penchant for Stooges/MC5-style blitzkrieg. Chris has 2 exciting news :
1° Dollhouse second album "The Royal Rendez-vous" originally released on Bad reputation has been remastered and is going to be re-issued on a worldwide digital release the 1st of October!
2° Right after Dollhouse broke up, Chris started a power-trio named The Black Explosion. In his own words, Black Explosion plays and creates music in a psychedelic electric blues-rock style. According to what i read, the recordings are still in process but running very smoothly. I'm eager to listen to this new stuff!

For reasons never entirely explained, Bob Seger suffered a bit of a breakdown shortly after Ramblin' Gamblin' Man, so he decided to bring Tom Neme, a guitarist/pianist, into the Bob Seger System to help lighten the load and share the burden. Thing is, Neme wound up taking over the band. It's hard to tell whether Seger endorsed his mutiny or if he was just so disinterested that he didn't put up a fight, but all the same, the second Seger album, Noah, is one strange affair. The band makes no secret of the change, stating on the back cover that "Seger will always be Bob Seger, (but) any change must come from the System and Tom Neme." So, the liner notes seem like a way to gloss over a real lack of leadership or a coup, depending on your point of view. This release holds together better than it would seem, but it's still an awkward album that's never sure where it wants to go. Ironically, Neme tries to replicate Seger's hard-driving rock songs several times throughout the album while Seger sounds more comfortable with the folky shuffle of the title track. Of course, he can still tear it up with "Innervenus Eyes," and he delves deeper into darkness than he ever has with the weirdly intense, claustrophobic closer, "Death Row." No matter how good these individual cuts may be -- and they're certainly worth the time of any devoted fan -- they still are isolated moments on the only album where he sounds tentative, confused, and disinterested. "Lust-O-Rama was definitely not a pop band. We were a down'n dirty garage-punk band, which was exactly what I wanted as the Cosmic Dropouts had started to turn more and more into a hard rock act. Credit to the boys in the beginning, they were absolutely up for it and it didn't take us long to get some gigs and a single released in Germany. Soon we were off touring in Europe. Now, that's what it's all about. Playing music for people in another country who are actually showing up because they bought the records and liked the music. It was fantastic...
Virgin Records wanted to sign us at one stage, but I guess they saw no future in a garage band like us in the midst of grungemania, which today would have made every record company in the country come running with fat contracts. We did much better in central Europe and had a good and steady following there. For some odd reason we attracted quite a lot of mods at our gigs, which didn't make any sense, as we were more of a punk rock band live. It must have been our razor sharp stage outfits that did it. Since nothing happened, the boys seemed to be satisfied with what they had already achieved and they ended up as lethargic couch potatoes. They didn't want to do anything. No touring unless it was in a luxury van, no recordings, no nothing. Shame is though, we had started working on what would be the second album and we had some fantastic things going, but I didn't have time for all the bollocks so I fired the whole band." - Arne Thelin

After having been around Freddy Lynxx for a long time, Kevin K, from New York has decided to explore the French network again and get the very experienced REAL KOOL KATS as a backing band. Whereas "Kiss Of Death" was considered as their best release so far, "Perfect Sin" (3rd album of the band) seems to be even more achieved and explores more musical fields than before.
