Robin Lane (born 1947, Los Angeles, California) is an American rock singer and songwriter. Her band, Robin Lane & the Chartbusters, was best known for its single "When Things Go Wrong".

In 1978, Lane formed the Chartbusters with Asa Brebner and Leroy Radcliffe (of The Modern Lovers), Scott Baerenwald and Tim Jackson. She had signed with Private Stock Records, which shortly afterward went out of business. After Jerry Wexler saw a Chartbusters show, however, he signed the band to Warner Brothers. Their first album, Robin Lane & the Chartbusters (1980) featured the singles "When Things Go Wrong" and "Why Do You Tell Lies?", earned favorable reviews, and received widespread airplay; the music video for "When Things Go Wrong" was the 11th song shown on MTV's first American broadcast day, August 1, 1981. The band had two more releases on Warner, the EP "5 Live" (1980) and "Imitation Life" (1981). The limited commercial success of these records, combined with business disputes and Lane's desire to have a child, led to the breakup of the Chartbusters in 1983.

Duncan Reid and the Big Heads - "Bombs Away"

A couple of months ago, Duncan Reid and the Big Heads released their very highly recommended 3rd album, "Bombs away". This is without any doubt their best record so far. Due to their relentless touring all over Europe (except in Belgium ha ha ha) the Big Heads are tighter than ever and deliver as they put it themselves "Fourteen catchy little ditties about life, death, paranoia and Viagra".

Beside Duncan Reid himself on Vocals, bass, guitar and keyboards, the Big Heads are featuring
Sophie K Powers: guitar - Mauro Venegas: guitar, backing vocals  and Karen Jones: drums, backing vocals.

This blog had a very interesting chat with the man himself:

1) Duncan, you are no newcomer to the Rock'n'roll scene. Personally I first discovered you in 1977 when I purchased the first album of The BOYS. What happened for you since the release of "Boys only" in 1980? You were in The Mattless Boys in 2010 but not in The BOYS that are touring again these days. Instead you are now fronting the BIG HEADS. Please, tell the viewers of this blog your full story since the 80's. We want to hear it all from you!

After The Boys disbanded in the early eighties I largely gave up music and ignored it. I went back to college and got myself an engineering degree while I worked out what I was going to do with my life. I couldn't stay away from entertainment though and ended up working for Andrew Lloyd Webber putting on musicals around the world and sorting out film deals and stuff. I then helped run Nottingham Forest (the football team) for a bit before moving back to London to finance films, TV programmes and music festivals. All that time people were asking The Boys to reform but myself and Matt Dangerfield weren't interested until an offer came in from Japan. Too good to turn down so we played Japan, really enjoyed it and I had a further 11 years with The Boys touring the world and having a great time before I decided to leave and see what I could do on my own in about 2011/2012

2) What is your favorite topic/topic that comes easily when you write a new song?

Me and my life. I think it's the most common topic for songwriters to write about. After all, what is the one subject that most of us know the most about? It's ourselves and what we live through and feel.

3) About your latest full length, "Duncan Reid And The Big Heads ‎– Bombs Away" what can you tell about the recording process? Was this a live in the studio recording or a track by track recording with lots of overdubs?

We started with the drums and built the tracks up one instrument at a time. The vocals and keyboards I recorded at home on a computer and emailed them across to the studio.

4) To what kind of music did you listen to as a teenager and does it still influence your today work? What was your favorite band as a teenager? Name 3 bands that you consider still have a influence on your own work today.

As a thirteen year old I listened to a load of rubbish. The early 70's had a lot of terrible bands that punk tried to sweep away. But mixed in there I listened to Slade, T Rex, David Bowie, Roxy Music, Status Quo etc which I also loved. Those bands still influence me big time. There wasn't one single band that I loved above all others. Maybe The Ramones but I'd hate to be stuck just listening to one band. The 3 bands that have the biggest influence on me are probably The Ramones, The Beach Boys and The Beatles.

5) Are you the main composer in The Big Heads or is everybody involved to a certain extend?

I am the main composer although I'm trying more to write with other people. Doesn't seem to happen though.

6) Do you have a video on youtube featuring a track from the latest release?

There  are a few.

7) What can concert goers expect at a Duncan Reid And The Big Heads gig? Are you playing any famous cover songs?

People can expect a high energy, entertaining show, with great songs played by beautiful, superb musicians! We play loads of Big Heads songs, a few Boys classics and the odd covers like Blitzkrieg Bop that we've never played before or rehearsed!

8) When you perform with The Big Heads, is it possible that you will play an impromptu version of a song from one of your previous bands? (I guess you must know what band most people are referring to.

See above. Yes. I love to play "First Time" and a few others

9) What are the plans for the rest of 2017 as far as The Big Heads are concerned? Are you guys planning to tour Europe soon?

We tour constantly. We are playing in Germany in October and November. We must get to Belgium for the first time!

10) Anything you would like to say to the viewers of this blog?

Check us out. It's the best thing you can do with your life!

Do yourself a favor, this is money well spent

2.Whole Damn World
3.The Other Side
4.Tell Me The Truth

7.All Or Nothing
8.Hang It Up

10.If You Gotta Go, Go Now
11.No Down Payment

The Pontiac Brothers' debut was originally released in 1985 by the Lolita label, a French imprint which was concentrating on releasing albums by several West Coast groups, including L.A.'s the Plimsouls, the Pandoras, and Gun Club's Sex Beat 81. Ward Dotson had been a member of Gun Club, in fact, but he didn't speak too highly of the group's leader, Jeffrey Lee Pierce, after he left, saying, "That guy was singing about having a hell hound on his trail when he still lived with his mom." Dotson was evidently approached by the people at Lolita after he formed a Rolling Stones cover band called the Gallstones. This band wasn't really a serious group at the time, but when offered the prospect of recording an album, they jumped at the chance, booking time at a local recording studio named the Casbah. The resulting album, Big Black River, has some very fine moments ("Whole Damn World", "If you gotta go, go now") even if , at times, it sounds a bit like a band who was still figuring out what they were wanting to sound like.

The Diodes - Released

The Diodes - Released
In Flac - Scans are included

Red Rubber Ball
Teenage Nation
Photographs From Mars
Madhouse
Mercenary Flight
Tired Of Waking Up Tired
Jenny's In A Sleep World
Weekend
No Right To Make Me Bleed
Terminal Rock

Despite the fact that the band was gaining momentum elsewhere in the world, that didn't stop Columbia Canada from dropping the Diodes. Compounding matters, the band had a new hit single ("Tired of Waking Up Tired") and a new album already in the can. Released, then, is a name that can go two ways: The band was released from their original contract, and their follow-up was finally seeing the light of day, thanks to the efforts of Epic. Musically speaking, the second album had a slightly different feel, possibly because drummer John Hamilton had been replaced by Mike Lengyell, but more likely because the band had logged countless hours onstage in front of demanding crowds. Rather than toughening up the band's sound, it drove them further into the world of pop -- piano takes a more prominent role here, and many of the songs have melodies you can actually hum along with ("Weekend," to name just one). Funny is that though this album only contains ten songs, one of those ("Red Rubber Ball") had already appeared on the previous album.

A1.Back Of My Hand
A2.Desert Island Discs
A3.Woman's World

B2.Party Games
B3.Tune Into Heaven
B4.Last Picture Show
B5.The Tourist

The Jags made their debut with the classic "Back of My Hand," leaving high expectations for a full-length. Evening Standards featured a sharp set of similar sounding, bouncy pop songs in the vein of Elvis Costello and Nick Lowe. Though it can be faulted for being highly derivative and certainly more than a little repetitive, the set actually holds up better than most from the era. (AllMusic Review by Chris Woodstra)

The A's were an American rock band consisting of Richard Bush (lead vocals), Rick DiFonzo (guitar), Rocco Notte (keyboards), Terry Bortman (bass), and Michael Snyder (drums). Formed in Philadelphia in 1978, the band released two albums on Arista Records: The A's (1979) and A Woman's Got the Power (1981). After building a loyal following in the Philadelphia area as a result of their energetic live shows, the A's signed a contract with Arista Records. The band's self-titled debut album was produced by Rick Chertoff and released in 1979. Trouser Press likened the album to The Boomtown Rats' A Tonic for the Troops in terms of combining "wit, street savvy and relatively intricate hard-pop arrangements." Two singles - "After Last Night" and "Parasite" - were released, but neither they nor the album found commercial success. The A's released their second album, A Woman's Got the Power, in 1981. Also produced by Chertoff, the album entered the U.S. Billboard charts, while the title track peaked at number 18 on the Top Rock Tracks chart and number 26 in Canada.

THE VOLCANICS - Oh Crash....

The Volcanics formed in Perth, Western Australia's back blocks with a purpose of playing stripped down rock ‘n’ roll with no hype attached. Inspired by the great local bands that came before them such as The Victims and The Scientists as well as the classic rock sounds of The Stooges, MC5 & AC/DC, the boys from the band have concocted their own brand of white hot, fuel injected rock n roll.

Currently, the band is featuring are Johnny Phatouros (vocals), Tommy Hopkins (guitar), Jesse Kuillotine (guitar), Pete Acklin (bass) and Alex Megaw (drums).

The Volcanics have recently released their 4th and best Album to date 'Oh Crash....' on the famous Citadel label. My personal favorite track is the aptly titled "Speed On The Track" but all the record kicks major ass. So it was time for this blog to have a very interesting chat with the guys in the band:

1) What can you tell about THE VOLCANICS? How long are you guys together as a band? Were you in other bands previously?
We have been together as a band for over 10 years now, we released our first album in 2007, our EP "Nothin For You" was released a little before that on Out Of The Loop Records, a West Australian label.. We have played in a few different bands before The Volcanics, yeh similar rocknroll.

2) About the new record "Oh Crash....",  what can you tell about the recording process? Was this a live in the studio recording or a track by track recording with lots of overdubs?
With our new album "Oh Crash" we recorded all the songs live, then we added some guitar solos, vocals and percussion...We recorded at Rada Studios Perth, Australia, with Rob Younger and Jozef Grech working with us. We all really enjoyed working again with Rob, it was great as it always is and also found working with Jozef for the first time to be awesome, he brought alot to the table, very talented.. We feel lucky to work with those two.

3) To what kind of music did you listen to as a teenager and does it still influence your today work? What was your favorite band as a teenager? Name 3 bands that you consider still have a influence on your own work today.

In the early days, teenage days started listening to lotsa people and songs, some are Little Richard, Chuck Berry, New York Dolls, MC5, Stooges, Ramones, Saints, Radio Birdman, New Christs, The Who, Kiss, Thin Lizzy, Carole King, Dionne Warwick. All of these people yeh still have an influence on us today with what we do.

4) Is there a main composer in the band or is everybody involved in one way or another?
We dont have a main composer in the band, we all enjoy writing and writing together, everyone gets involved with the songs. We like it that way.

5) THE VOLCANICS have an undeniable Aussie approach of rock'n'roll that could lead to compare you to The New Christs, The Victims or The Scientists. Do you agree with this comparison or do you consider there is way more than that?
We approach it the only way we know how. Its nice when people are writing about our music, that they reference some bands that we really like and truly admire. Some of these bands have been endless inspiration for us but that's as far as it goes, with admiration and respect we dont sound like any of them. We sound like The Volcanics..... We can only dream to be anywhere near their league and we hope to do the best we can to help continue the great tradition set up by some amazing Australian bands.

6) Do you have a video on youtube featuring a track from the latest release?
We do have a new video on youtube, our song called "Natural In A Way" off the new album. It was fun making it, working with Seymour Davidson who filmed it and put it together, he's a great man.

7) What can concert goers expect at a gig of The VOLCANICS? Are you playing any famous cover songs?
At a Volcanics show people can expect energy, life, drums, guitars, dancing, happiness, rock'n'roll music.....Yes we are playing some covers also in our sets, songs we enjoy playing, sorry we cant say now which ones, we like to keep that a surprise for the people who come to our shows.

8) Does Perth, Australia have a long history of rock bands, that goes way back to the 70/80's? And are the Volcanics in the continuity of this heritage?
Perth,Australia has a long history of rock bands, only some of these include The Victims, Scientists,The Boys, Wayne Green And The Phantoms, The Stems, DM3, The Jackyls, Rockets, The Bamboos, Change Alley, The Healers, M16s,Jed Whitey, Foustroke, Homicides, Datura 4, Kuillotines, The Shakeys, Caballeros...Feel lucky to know these great bands..  Yeh you could say we are part of this West Australian heritage.

9) What are the plans for the rest of 2017 as far as THE VOLCANICS are concerned? Are you guys planning to tour Europe soon?
We are Touring Spain and France this Oct 2017, our third time touring there.. Each time we go on tour, it seems more people are discovering the band and coming to the shows, its really encouraging and great fun playing and meeting new good people.

10) Anything you would like to say to the viewers of this blog?
All to best to all your readers, love, health, happiness!

BABY SHAKES - Turn it Up

BABY SHAKES are an amazing Power pop/Glam/Rock'n'roll quartet hailing from New York city. The band is featuring Mary: lead vocals/guitar, Judy: lead guitar/backing vocals, Claudia: bass/backing vocals, Ryan: drums.

A few weeks ago the band released their third full length, the aptly titled "TURN IT UP". Without any doubt, this is their best work so far and on this new record the group delivers infectious harmonies and high energy rock'n'roll songs that stick in your head for days!

So it was time for this blog to have a little chat with this nice bunch of people.

Girls, we would like you to tell the viewers of this blog the full story of BABY SHAKES. The origins of the band, who is playing what, how did you meet, what happened for you since your first release "The First One"; We want to hear it all from you!

Judy and Claudia met at a punk show at CBGB’s when they were teenagers. They both had studded jackets, pink/blue hair and collected UK ‘82 and ‘77 punk singles so it made sense that they’d become good friends. They used to jam out to Johnny Thunders and the Heartbreakers songs together in their living rooms. A friend of ours (the artist Avi Spivak) knew that we were looking for band mates so when Mary moved to NY from Seattle he introduced us at his DJ night. She liked the same kind of music and we used to make mix CDs for each other when we first met. We all got along so well and when we heard Mary sing we knew it was the perfect style for the kind of music we wanted to play and she played guitar too. As for Ryan… well we’ve had many drummers in the past but he was definitely the missing puzzle piece. We met him through friends when we needed a drummer for our show with Protex.

About your latest full length "Turn It Up", I can hear a tougher/more powerful and more glam orientated sound (I love that!) do you agree and is this a direction you are definitely aiming for?
It wasn’t the goal when we were writing the songs but it just kind of happened that way so we went with it. We realized the mood was tougher after we heard the full album. During the recording and mixing process we tried to go for a more raw sound closer to our first two 45's.

To what kind of music did you listen to as teenager girls and does it still influence your today work? What was your favorite band as a teenagers? Name 3 bands that you consider still have a influence on your own work today.

Mary: Slade, The Ronettes, MC5

Judy: The Boys, Cocksparrer, The Beatles

Ryan: The Adverts, Motörhead, The Damned

Claudia: Ramones, Bowie, The Cars

Is there a main composer in the band or is everybody involved in one way or another?
Everyone is involved in the song writing process.

What is your favorite topic/topic that comes easily when you write a new song?
Having fun!!

Is there any video made to promote one of the songs of the albums?
We shot a music video for Do What You Want this past March during our Japanese tour. It was filmed in Tokyo at Shelter by Mike Rogers and his awesome crew. You can see the video here:

We also have a really great idea for the next music video that we’re currently working on. Stay tuned!!

What can concert goers expect at a BABY SHAKES gig? Are you playing any famous cover songs?

We try to really have fun onstage and get people dancing with us. Tequila is the 5th Baby Shakes so we love it when people bring us shots while we play!!!
We mostly play our own material but we’ve got a good amount of covers that we work into our sets for different shows. The Scientists, The Boys, The Undertones, The Starjets and Zero Boys are some of our favorites.

Is there a new rock'n' roll scene in New York these days and are there any other bands you are feeling close to?
There’s a bunch of bands always popping up in the NY scene and some that have been playing around for a while. Some of our favorites are Daddy long Legs, Dirty Fences, and Wyldlife.

What are the plans for 2017? Are BABY SHAKES coming over to Europe soon?
Yes!! We’ve got shows coming up with Flamin’ Groovies and we’re playing with the BOMP band ‘B’ Girls and two amazing Japanese bands in September (The Fadeaways and The Mellvins). We’re also playing a killer show in Puerto Rico with Los Tom Toms, Ardillas and Los Vigilantes plus the Growlers Festival 6 in L.A. this October. We’re working on a Euro tour for the end of the year and we plan to play in Europe, Scandinavia and the UK in 2018. Hopefully we get to play some more awesome festivals next year. We always have fun at festivals. Especially in the summer!

Anything you want to add?
Burger Records just released the cassette version of our new album, Turn It Up. We can’t wait to get back to Europe! If anyone out there has any info on festivals or wants to book us please contact jonk@alleycat.se or us directly at babyshakes@babyshakes.com.
