Set the way-back machine for August 1974--Boston, Mass. That rumble you hear coming up from the basement of Jack's Drum Shop on Boylston Street isn't a derailing subway train. You, my friend, are hearing the birthing roar of Thundertrain! Five kids from the suburbs of Boss-town who, for the next five years, glory stomped their way up and down New England and beyond.

Thundertrain became the heroes of every biker bar, high school cafeteria, and hip downtown club in Red Sox Country, grinding out a high-energy blitzkrieg of rebel rock, strutting their stuff at that dangerous corner where glam-meets- metal-meets-rock-&-roll-meets-punk.

They were the bridge between the best of early '70's rock AND the return of straight ahead stripped down rock, with feet in both camps. From 1974 through 1979, you saw Thundertrain in 16 MAGAZINE, TIME, BOSTON GROUPIE NEWS, PLAYBOY, BOMP, VARIETY, ROCK SCENE and every DIY zine ever published.

The Blind Owls - All Day And Night

After nearly three years spent of constant performances around Texas and festivals around the country ferociously banging out an authentic Rock n' Roll repertoire , The Blind Owls (featuring DYLAN ROMEL: Drums/Vocals; JESSE DE LOS SANTOS: Guitar/Vocals; CARLOS GARCIA: Bass Guitar/Vocals and JOSH DE LEON: Guitar/Vocals) from Corpus Christi, Texas released their debut full length "All Day And Night".

Yours truly had a nice chat with the guys who reveal everything you ever wanted to know about this 4-piece outfit.

1) What can you tell about The Blind Owls? How long are you guys together as a band? Were you in other bands previously?

We have been a band since 2012, it started out as something to do for fun, just playing cover songs by various artists and it eventually spawned into what we are now. It is all of our first band... Well at least our first serious band. Although, all of us have been playing music since we were much younger.

2) To what kind of music did you listen to as a teenager and does it still influence your today work? What was your favorite band as a teenager? Name 3 bands that you consider still have a influence on your own work today.

We all grew up listening to various different things through our teenage years, so it really depends on what part of them we are  talking about. However, when we started the band we were very into bands like Pink Floyd, the Beatles, the Who and Led Zeppelin. We then started getting really into the roots of rock n' roll groups and music and began delving deeper into music of the 50's and 60's that have a big influence on us today. 3 artists that we would say have the most influence on us till this day would probably be

1. The Easybeats, for their energy and songwriting abilities and creativity in their music.
2. The Beatles for just about every aspect, and the hard work and dedication that they put into their music.
3. The kinks, for their aggressiveness and the distinctive qualities that they brought to Each of their songs.

3) Is there a main composer in the band or is everybody involved in one way or another?

Our main composer is guitarist/singer Jesse De Los Santos for most of our songs. However, every song is put together with Each other so everyone has something to bring to every song. And each person has their own songs that they write that we perform as well.

4) About the new record "All Day And Night", can you explain the title? And what's the connection with the artwork on the front cover?

The title is the same as our title track "All Day & Night" the song was one of our very first songs we wrote and has always proved to be one of our most exciting songs to play and especially close out our shows with. So we thought changing it around and opening up the album with it would be a change of pace and kick things off right away! And thought the title would be a perfect title for the album as well. The cover photo was taken by Vic Daniels and we had many photos to choose from, however when it came to choosing which one had the best look and was eye catching, we went with the final product.

5) The Blind Owls are described by some people as a 60's garage band. Do you agree with this label or do you consider there is way more than that?

We agree to a certain extent. We feel that a lot of our music has a variety of everything. We don't like to be stuck to one genre or label. We write songs that we write, so One of our songs could have a real garage sound to it, and the next song you hear by us might be a very slow more intimate song, or an upbeat poppy song. It's just however we feel when we're writing our music. And we feel that their is no restrictions as to what our sound should be and what our songs should sound like.

6) Do you have a new video on you tube featuring a track from the new LP??

As of now, we do not. Although we are currently working on it and you can check it out as soon as we do on our Facebook page or our website.

7) What can concert goers expect at a The Blind howls gig? Are you playing any famous cover songs?

Many people often compliment us for our highly energetic stage presence. We like to bring a very high energy to our music and let it flow into our audience and let them know how much we enjoy playing our music for them. We also try and perform all originals, although from time to time we will insert a cover song here and their by some of our influences.

8) Does Corpus Christi, Texas have a long history of garage bands, that goes way back to the 60's?

It certainly does. The Zakary Thaks were from Corpus Christi in the mid 60's and are another influence on us. They had some success and played with bands such as the 13th floor elevators at the time. Another group were The Bad Seeds, who from Corpus Christi as well in the 1960's. There's a very deep history with music in Corpus Christi that not a lot of people may know about.

SEVEN LONG YEARS - Love Me Now And Hate Me Later

The amazing SEVEN LONG YEARS just released their long awaited new digital full length.

The vintage sounds of SEVEN LONG YEARS combine amazing fuzz work, brilliant songwriting and harmonies with the atmosphere of west coast psychedelic bands.

"Can the Martians read our minds?" is a psychedelic garage gem reminiscent of the 13th FLOOR ELEVATORS while "Give her time" and "The Last of the Flower Children" are soon to be classic uptempo tracks.

This time around you can even hear traces of some surf sounds on a creepy instrumental ("Operazione Vendetta") reminisced of the Ennio Morricone or the Ventures heydays.

A great production job, eerie vocal melodies, reverb drenched guitar solos and a combined mysterious obsession for everything that's evil and for Raquel Welch.

Why this band hasn't been signed on SOUNDFLAT Records is totally beyond my understanding. The title track "Love Me Now And Hate Me Later" is already a favorite of mine and it should be yours too!

Make yourself a favor: Go over to bandcamp and buy this splendid masterpiece of garage maelstrom. The bandcamp release contains the front and the back covers.

Imperial State Electric “All Through the Night” released on Psychout Records/Sound pollution

Merely one year after the previous record “Honk Machine” (that was as far as I'm concerned certainly the band's best stuff), The new Imperial State Electric, “All Through the Night”, has recently be released on Psychout Records/Sound pollution. The album was recorded in Nicke Andersson's very own studio The Honk Palace and was mixed by Frans Hagglund.

That Nicke Andersson is one of Sweden's most prolific and talented songwriters and musicians is not a secret but the man manages to still improve his songwriting with every new album and he delivers once more 10 new tracks filled to the rafters with infectious melodies, harmonies and hooks.

The record kicks off with the very Blue Oyster Cultish "Empire of Fire" and its heavy 70's guitars and pounding drums. And you immediately know that you're in for a treat. Other highlights of “All Through the Night” are the very fine title track, "Would you lie", the rocking “Get Off the Boo Hoo Train” and also the beautiful ending track of the record, penned by bassist Dolf de Borst “No Sleeping”, with its acoustic guitars and its Beatlesque overtones.

Imperial State Electric has always tried to expand its musical boundaries and this time the band came up with the country tinged duet with Linn Segolson, "Break it down".

The band (Nicke Andersson: lead vocals, guitars; Tobias Egge: Guitars, vocals:  Tomas Eriksson: drums, vocals and Dolf de Borst: bass, vocals) is tighter than ever and you can feel this band -one of the hardest working bands in the business as James Brown used to say- has been playing live relentlessly. This is an absolute must buy that won't disappoint any of the many Imperial State Electric fans all over the world and will even bring then some new ones!

Datura4 - Hairy Mountain, released on Alive-Naturalsound.

Last year,  Datura4, from Fremantle, Western Australia, brought together Dom Mariani (frontman of legendary Australian garage band The Stems and Power Pop favourites DM3) and Greg Hitchcock (You Am I, The Kryptonics, The Monarchs) along with Drummer Warren Hall (ex-Drones) and bassist Stu Loasby for a astonishing debut full length intitled “Demon Blues” that was released on Alive-Naturalsound.

Almost one year later and with another beautiful psychedelic cover art, done by Joshua Marc Levy/Asheville Art Family, Alive-Naturalsound is releasing "Hairy Mountain", the sophomore effort of the band.

Their previous record, was great but this one is a real masterpiece. And this is no wonder since this band knows how to write brilliant and ultra catchy songs. You hear them once and they get stuck in your head for days.

This record is filled with fat and
heavy 70s guitars riffs, tremolo and wha-wha maestria, tight and groovy rhythm section and -most important- great songs with plenty of hooks and sing-a-long choruses. But it is not about revival or nostalgia of a past era. On the contrary, it is absolutely fresh and lively. It is a real heavy pop record in the truest and most honest sense of the word. A record you gotta LOVE. Favorite tracks "Mary Carroll Park",
"Confide in me" and "Fools Gold Rush".

LIMITED EDITION OF 150 ON AMAZING HAND MIXED 180 GRAM VINYL! EACH ONE SLIGHTLY DIFFERENT. NOTE:CD HAS TWO BONUS TRACKS

5.Peace 02:26
6.Freedom 03:07
7.Red The Signpost 02:57
8.Mantra 03:16
9.Termination 08:27

Baby Woodrose is an iconic band on the Danish psych scene who released its debut album "Blows Your Mind" back in 2001. Long before psychedelic music had a revival, frontman Lorenzo Woodrose and his band came up with their own mix of psych, garage and stoner rock which they have refined during the years.

Freedom is the 7th album by Baby Woodrose and is released more than four years after the previous album Third Eye Surgery came out in 2012.

All Baby Woodrose albums have a different vibe and this time there has been an analogue approach to recording the nine songs. The whole album is recorded and mixed on tape, giving it a very live-in-the-studio type of feeling. This means no cut and paste and a minimal amount of overdubs!

Special thanx to Imelis for provinding the psychedelic goods!

Bo Diddley - 1970 - The Black Gladiator

Bo Diddley - 1970 - The Black Gladiator
In Flac - Scans are included

A1 Elephant Man 4:28
A2 You, Bo Diddley 3:30
A3 Black Soul 2:47
A4 Power House 2:50
A5 If The Bible's Right 3:08

B2 Shut Up, Woman 3:40
B3 Hot Buttered Blues 3:44
B4 Funky Fly 2:55
B5 I Don't Like You 3:10

"Black Gladiator" is a great compilation of dynamic music from Bo's funky later work. The beats in several cuts, most notably "I Don't Like You", "The Funky Fly" and "I've Got a Feeling" are among the best he ever created. Bo's guitar playing on "I've Got a Feeling" is what Chuck Berry must have been talking about when he said that Johnny B. Goode could play a guitar "just like ringing a bell". Great album which anyone interested in rhythm and guitar should have.

In 1978 a group of individuals from local bands inspired by the DIY ethic of punk started their own record label. They were Richard Holgarth and Billy Meadows from The Gangsters, Kevin Jones and Shane Roe from The Sods with Colin Babb who did the accounts.

STORTBEAT began life in 1978 with a £1000 overdraft from a bank. The first release was "Record Company"/"Harlow Town" by The Gangsters. It got good reviews and was played by John Peel on his Radio 1 show. The main venues in the area were The Triad in Stortford and The Square in Harlow. In a couple of months the initial pressing had sold out which enabled more releases to be made. The Harlow Playhouse bar on Saturdays became Stortbeats central meeting point.

The Shakers - A Whole Lotta Shakers!

These Shakers are not be confused with the '60s band from Uruguay. These Shakers (TONY SHAKER - Drums; EDDIE SHAKER- Guitar/vocals; MARTIN SHAKER - Bass guitar/vocals) come from Liverpool and are the true heirs of the Star Club-Era Beatles.

Formed in 2005 by drummer Tony, these lads authentically recreate the look and the sound of those Liverpool days and Hamburg nights, when the original Mersey Sound was born.

The group’s musical repertoire is based around the early 60s British Merseybeat sound, as they believe that this is when beat music was at its most exciting so don’t expect anything past 1965! Their full-length vinyl LP/ CD ’A WHOLE LOTTA SHAKERS!’,  recorded at the famous Britannia Row studios in London is available on Soundflat Records and includes covers of classics like 'Soldier Of Love', 'Rock 'N' Roll Music' and 'Love Potion #9', as well as great self penned tunes.

’A WHOLE LOTTA SHAKERS!’ is quite an enjoyable debut full length album and should definitely belong to your records collection if you dig bands like THE KAISERS or PETER BERRY and THE SHAKE SET. Maximum MerseyBeat, indeed!

Phil Seymour's first album charted well and spawned the hits "Precious to Me" and "Let Her Dance." "2" never charted, but contains songs that are as good as the ones on the first album. "Love Receiver," "Surrender," "Better to Me Than You" and "Talk to Me" could have been hits, if his record company hadn't given up promoting him. Ten bonus tracks make you realize how much more Seymour had to give. Sadly, he died of cancer in 1993 at 41 years old.

Special thanx to  JPaul for this brilliant contribution!

NEW The Role Models - Forest Lawn released on GLUNK RECORDS

The second album from the London-based four-piece, confirms that these folks are good bad, not evil. Playing snappy powerpop in a 77 spirit with hooks galore, chiming guitars, and solid harmonies, Forest Lawn is also stocked with fine original songs like the energetic "Radio", "Goodbye And Hooray" or "Got no time".

Rich's slightly sandy growl fits the material well and he knows how to put the right emotions into his delivery, and with Nick Hugues he's half of a very impressive guitar combination. Bassist Daniel Husayn and drummer Simon Maxwell keep the band alive with drive, and these 12 tunes zoom by in less than 38 minutes. Fans of punk-oriented garage stuff that isn't afraid to fly the flag for pure pop at the same time, then Forest Lawn is just the record you've been needing.

Here is RAGS describing in his own words everything you ever wanted to know about the brilliant ROLE MODELS but were afraid to ask: his life in Canada, the release of the first full length, the new band members, the new record and the meaning of its title:

"Well hello again! It was a year ago since we last spoke. And if you're new, I'll just reiterate what I said last time.

The life before this one
I am originally from Canada and have lived and played music in Calgary, Toronto, New York City and London. How I eventually washed up on these shores was your typical series of close calls resulting in Zane Lowe of Radio One championing my New York band's single. And us touring this wonderful island.
All that, of course, led to the band falling apart. Yay. But it DID bring me here to the UK and I was soon writing and making music with some truly wonderful people. I started the Role Models. We released an ep on TAKEN BY SURPRISE RECORDS out of Germany and toured there, playing with Leatherface and Sonny Vincent. Released a single, “THIS EVENTUALLY LEADS NOWHERE” that paid for an entire summer of safe play days for families with autistic children (no bullying!) in North London. Another ep “LOST IN THE CITY” was put out into the world. Reviews were wonderful and it made UK top 10 lists (UBER ROCK AWARDS LIST's EP OF THE YEAR, TBFM’s TOP 50 Punk Tunes of 2013). That brought some nice people around supporting us. Some members came and went.

The album before this one
Then it was time. Time for a full length album. It turned into “THE GO-TO GUY” and was put out this time last year on GLUNK RECORDS. It changed things in a great way for us.
With the release of the TGTG, came glowing reviews and appreciated support from all over the underground world. As well as some more accolades we are proud of. UBER ROCK'S number 5 album of the year, as well as making the lists for gig of the year for our album release. We were nominated for PURE RAWK AWARDS band of the year, front person of the year, axe hero of the year and album of the year. Had a sold out album release with Steve Conte. Ginger Wildheart took a shine and gave us some very cool opening slots for his Hey! Hello! and solo bands. He even joined us on stage for a tune.Let's just say it was a great year!We didn't wanna stop to rest.

New band members, new music
I had an album's worth of material ready to go. The band, consisting of new guy Nick Hughes (Yo Yo's) and mainstay go-to guys Daniel Husayn (Thee Spivs, Red Dons), Simon Maxwell (Loyalties, Yo Yo's), were well primed to start the process of whipping the songs into shape. Very proud to play with these guys. How do we record it? That brings us to Pledge. That was a great way to do it! Straight to fans. And within just over a week we nailed it thanks to great support from those awesome people out there.

The supporting cast
So we got back to work again with close pal and decorated producer, Andy Brook (Ginger Wildheart, Towers Of London, Status Quo). Called up some friends to join us on a few numbers. Sami Yaffa (Hanoi Rocks, Michael Monroe, New York Dolls), Steve Conte (New York Dolls, Michael Monroe), Dave Kerr (Cherrykicks, Sorry And The Sinatras). And even one of my favourite singers since I was a kid, Chris Barry (222?s, 39 Steps, Pillbox), sings Michael Monroe and me and Si's old bandmate in The Loyalties). He is all over this, too.

Where/What the hell is Forest Lawn?
Well, that brings us to today and what you're about to listen to. “Forest Lawn”. Named after where I grew up. A colourful neighbourhood on the “wrong side” of the tracks. Filled with refugees like my parents and immigrants from all over. I couldn't think of a better place to grow up and discover Rock ?n' Roll. As a writer and musician, I’ve been influenced as the band has by power pop bands such as Plimsouls, punk like Johnny Thunders And The Heartbreakers, whatever you wanna call The Replacements and Wildhearts and that other Heartbreaker, Tom Petty. They all show up for a quick one. Still, there's a feeling I wanted to capture. Those butterflies of “what's next?” that began with those first records and guitar still won't settle down. I feel I am just starting again. Again. That feeling of saying goodbye while saying hello. Not being sure if you've done either properly. Dreaming while doing. And making some peace with that past. I wrote some songs about it.My dad used to give me advice over rum and cokes from the garage in Forest Lawn. “Richie. You are not trapped. You are a citizen of the world. Just don't be stupid.” I'll try not to!

Also these songs are pretty good to have a few drinks to. We hope ya like ?em."
