Influenced by spy music and organ-heavy go-go soul of the '60s and '70s, but driven by the same massive beats that fueled pop club crossovers like Fatboy Slim and Pizzicato Five, the Frank Popp Ensemble began as a studio project of German DJ Frank Popp. After a few successful singles, the once conceptual "ensemble" became a reality by the time of their 2001 debut full-length, Ride On. The eclectic mix of upbeat mod soul and kitschy pop was a hit in Europe and led to several songs from the album being used in commercials.

3 days of the dogs (DAY THREE)

DAY THREE : The Dogs - Shout

In Flac - Scans are included
1. Pah-Pah-Ooh-Pah-Ooh

4. When I Was Young
5. Somebody
6. Hey Belinda
7. Good Morning Do You Love Me
8. Shop Around
9. A Different Me
10. Shout
11. Down At Lulu'S
12. Mon Coeur Bat Encore

14. You Can Stay With Me
While Mary Weiss's name isn't familiar to the masses, her records with the Shangri-Las in the 1960s left an indelible mark on the cultural map. "Leader of the Pack," "Remember (Walking in the Sand)," and a string of other hits had her unmistakable voice blasting from radios and record players across the land. Just 18 when their last hit fell off the charts, Weiss, disillusioned from bad business deals, virtually disappeared. Now, 40 years later, comes her first solo album. Backed by Greg Cartwright and his band Reigning Sound, the songs (most of them penned by Cartwright) have their roots in the '60s, but eschew Spectorish sheen and density for a harder-edged sound. If the early-era Rolling Stones had been fronted by Debbie Harry, they'd have landed quite near this relentless 40-minute party. The few covers include an Ellie Greenwich/Jeff Barry chestnut, "Heaven Only Knows." Smartly paced, a few ballads offer some breathing room before the rhythm pumps up again. --David Greenberger

The Whipshades

THE WHIPSHADES are the best thing to come out of NORWAY since a very long time, well probably since the first record of the YUM YUMS. They play pure old school punk'n'roll just the way it should be: three chords, hooks a plenty and guitars licks that Johnny THUNDERS would have been proud of.
Move your lazy asses over to :

and buy the digital copy

or get in touch with the band to buy a vinyl copy of this little gem.

The Exploding Hearts - Guitar Romantic

The Exploding Hearts - Guitar Romantic
In wav - scans are included
1  Modern Kicks  3:19
2  I'm A Pretender  2:32
3  Thorns In Roses  2:43
4  You're Black & Blue  2:05
5  Sleeping Aides & Razorblades  2:36
6  Rumours In Town  2:33
7  Throwaway Style  2:58
8  Boulevard Trash  2:10
9  Jailbird  3:37
10  Still Crazy  4:04
At first glance, the Exploding Hearts seem like mere revivalists. From the pink and yellow cover to their 1977 looks to their influences, it would be easy to dismiss them. But you need to hold the phone a minute and listen, because the Exploding Hearts are the best punk band since the original wave. About those influences, here is a partial list: the early Clash if Mick Jones wrote all the songs and the Only Ones or Buzzcocks at their emotional best, but also classic power pop sounds like a (much) tougher Rubinoos, rock & roll like a tighter and sober New York Dolls. Guitar Romantic is an amazingly raw and melodic debut, fully realized and original despite the obvious debt to the punk past. It is difficult to pinpoint just what it is about the band that helps overcome their idol worship. Maybe it is the love and authenticity that they pour into the worship, the raw production that smashes the guitars and bass into a whirling mess of tuneful noise, or the wonderfully tough but tender vocals. Most likely it is the songwriting. Too many bands that seek to re-create a sound or an era don't have the tunes to back it up. Not the Hearts.

Hellacopters - Goodnight Cleveland

Hellacopters - Goodnight Cleveland
DVD
The Hellacopters "Goodnight Cleveland" is a fly on the wall documentary following the Hellacopters on their 2002 tour of America. Informed by the techniques of cinema verité and direct cinema developed in the 1960's by master documentary filmmakers, the band is allowed the space to do what they do without intrusions of any kind from the filmmaker, allowing for glimpses into the magical and mundane moments of everyday life in a hard working action rock band abroad. The Hellacopters: Goodnight Cleveland is a relaxed and open-handed portrait of a band on the road. Essential viewing for anyone pondering a career in the music business, or anyone merely curious.
The title of the film is a reference to the scene in This Is Spinal Tap where the band gets lost trying to find the stage and the band members say, "Hello Cleveland." The Hellacopters' singer actually says, "Goodnight Cleveland," when addressing the audience at the Cleveland show which can be seen in the outtakes section of the DVD release.
