Amazingly, star-crossed rocker Dwight Twilley, who had gone more than a decade between releases, put out two albums within seven weeks in 1999. In June came Tulsa, his first album of new material in 13 years, followed in July by the archival Between the Cracks, Vol. 1, subtitled, "a collection of rarities." Clearly, the reclusive Tulsa-based musician has been writing and recording all along, and he sifted through more than 20 years of tapes to compile this collection of outtakes, demos, and lost tracks from album projects that were never released. Kent Benjamin's liner notes reference unheard albums like Blueprint and The Luck that were the victims of record company machinations and bad luck, not to mention numerous recording sessions dating back to Twilley's teens. Twilley himself annotates the songs, some of which he has specific recollections about, others that he doesn't even remember writing. Dating from 1973 to 1994, they include polished pop/rock performances in the standard Twilley style, with its driving guitars and heavily echoed vocals, as well as oddities such as a Christmas song ("Christmas Love").

Special thanx to JPaul for this brilliant contribution!

Cobra Verde - Copycat Killers

Cobra Verde - Copycat Killers

In Flac - covers are included

1. Get The Party Started 2. Underpants 3. Temptation 4. I Feel Love 5. Urban Guerilla 6. I Want You 7. Play With Fire 8. Teenage Kicks 9. Yesterday's Numbers 10. The Dice Man 11. So Long, Marianne 12. Rock And Roll Queen

The covers album collects 12 tunes you'd never hear on a K-Tel comp, let alone during prom night. "Copycat Killers" opens with a pot-induced rendition of Pink's "Get the Party Started" and includes everything from a kraut-rockin' take on Donna Summer's "I Feel Love" to whomp-and-stomp nuggets by the Troggs, Flamin' Groovies and, uh, New Order. That's not all -- it never is with these Cleveland rock legends. CV has been hailed as "the last rock stars," "pop nihilists," "glittery rebel rebels" and "a brilliant mix of '70s glam, post-punk, heavy pop and balls-out rock" In my humble opinion however the best tracks are the Easter Monkeys "Underpants" and Mott's "Rock'n'roll Queen"So, what are you waiting for? Go to war with Cobra Verde.

Gone, Gone, Gone2009 UK CD pressing of this release from Boston's Garage supergroup, produced by the legendary Kim Fowley. .A Garage band in the classic sixties tradition, Muck & The Mires hold the Beatles in high esteem whilst at the same time having funny stories to tell about seeing the Ramones. Yes, they write catchy tunes with hooks galore and play them in a straight-ahead Rock 'N' Roll style. Surprisingly, the band says that it's musical model is Tottenham's own Dave Clark Five!

Slaters - The Big Black Bug Bled Black Blood

Slaters - The Big Black Bug Bled Black Blood

in FLAC - covers are included

Nothing Makes Sense / Silly Games / Kate / Hear This / Just Like The Rest / I Bet There's More / Back To Where U Started / You're Wrong / Stranded At The Lansdowne / Stuff 'n' Junk / Crystal Girl / Still Around / Oldest Story In The World / Dragstrip Queen / Angel

Hailing from Sydney's southern suburbs, John Vittorio, Darren McNamara and Matt Allison were the Slaters. They played a mixture of energetic garage power pop with melody and fun. Released on the australian label Zero Hour, half of the album was comprised of vintage cuts including the brilliant "Crystal Girl" and a cover of the Plimsouls "Oldest Story in The World". The other half was eight songs worth of recent recordings that easily make most practioners of so-called "power pop" look like pale imitations of the Knack. Matt Allison later joined Mickster (of Pyramidiacs fame), who was the drummer on some of the Slaters tracks, in the Finkers (with Michael Carpenter). Also noteworthy is the title of The Pyramidiacs' anthology "Stuff 'n' Junk" which was a song (produced by Rob Younger) by the Slaters, kind of a tribute to this underrated band.

LONDON COWBOYS The "Underdog" recordings

LONDON COWBOYS The "Underdog" recordings 1992

In Flac - covers are included
Hook Line & Sinker / Going Thru The Motions / That Luxury Man / Doris Day / Reggae Cop / Animal Pleasure / Catcher In The Rye / Rockin' On A Bad Beat / Wow Wow Oui Oui / Long Goodbye / Design For Living / Saigon
Blue Murder / Centerfold / Courtesan (She's A Real Hot Man) / It Takes Time / Underworld U.S.A / False Emotion / Let's Get Crazy
The start of the London Cowboys really goes back to when Barry Jones and Steve Dior met in 1975 through a girl they both dated. Their first band "The Quickspurts" consisted of Barry and Keith on guitars, Steve singing and on bass, and a Swedish chap called Geir on drums. Meanwhile Steve and Barry recruited another friend, Chrissie Hynde to play guitar. Then, Steve switched to guitar; so Chrissie was out..! After meeting Jerry Nolan who had left the Heartbreakers, the three of them then arranged and recorded their first demos for Track Records. By March 1978 the band were living and playing in New York as The Idols. Later to be joined by Arthur "Killer" Kane. Moving back to Europe , Jerry Nolan got his entry in England refused and that was the end of The Idols. Barry returned to the USA and meanwhile Steve began working with a new partner, Russell King, on a few studio dance type songs, under the name London Cowboys. It was a year later that Barry came back from the States and hooked up with Steve once again; and, with the European release and success of the London Cowboys first single "Shunting on the Nightshift", they decided it was time to get a working band again. As Russell didn't play live, Steve moved back to vocals and the two started looking for a rhythm section, Tony James and Terry Chimes for their first full album "Animal Pleasure". Later, they persuaded old friend Glen Matlock to play bass. Matlock wrote their single "Street Full Of Soul" and can be heard on the second mini LP "Tall In The Saddle". Both albums have never been reissued on CD individually but they were coupled for the "Underdog Recordings" in 1992.

The Cheats - Hats Off To The Cheats

The Cheats - Hats Off To The Cheats

in FLAC - covers are included

1 Do It Again 2 One Foot In The Grave 3 Wait There 4 Don't Be Sad 5 Another Night 6 Burn It Up 7 Leavin' Here 8 Rack 'Em Up 9 Worried About You 10 Where You Been? 11 Baby Won't You Be My Baby (Tonight)? 12 Run for Your Life 13 Devil And You

There’s a smidgen of relatively introspective stuff to be found here, most notably ‘Don’t Be Sad’, but for the most part it’s all pretty straightforward rock’n’roll. Tales of drinking and girls and parties, and those of drinking with girls at parties. It’s not ever self-consciously whacky or stupid, however – even though The Cheats aren’t a band who take themselves too seriously. That being said, the two-piece format really come downs to how interesting a band can keep things when limited to the basic guitar/vocals/drums palette. Here, The Cheats use rhythm and tempo changes - sometimes mid song – to great effect, and the odd touch of keyboards and a decent rack of effects pedals adds some nice colour to the mix as well. - Trevor Block

DIAMOND DOGS celebrate their 20th anniversary as a band and “Set Fire To It All” is a fitting gift. The songs see some simplified songwriting with a strong sense of have-fun end result, plus the structure is as predictable yet as joyful as desired for fans of this specific style.
