Australian two-on-one reissue on Raven for the first two Jack Nitzsche produced albums, 1977's 'Cabretta' & 1978's 'Return To Magenta'. A great way to catch his two best early releases -- the stuff that won him lots of critical acclaim. So many musical influences here -- r&b, reggae, Brill Building pop. "Mixed Up, Shook Up Girl" has got to rank as one of the greatest least-known tunes ever put to record. Great attitude on both disks -- tough hood, sensitive lover, slick come-on man. Outstanding guitar playing by Louie X. Erlanger who defined DeVille's sound as importantly as the writing and singing. Not coincidental that his subsequent departure marked a lessening of the quality of DeVille's output. A great set.

Willie is the best & still alive ! A real attitude ! A GREAT class ! I saw him on stage many times : each time I could ! An absolute star !!!!
He has never done a bad lp ...but the 3 first are masterpieces !

According to this news letter from his fan-club he's not that well at the momet.

"It’s very hard for me to write this letter / newsletter.

In the last fan magazine you could read that Willy was having a tough time right now.
He was diagnosed with Hepatitis C, as was Nina.
So Nina cancelled all 2009 concerts and assumed that Willy would be alright after 48 weeks of treatment. Then all of a sudden Willy got real sic, and the doctors tested him and tested him.

During the tests they hoped that it would be only Hepatitis C, but unfortunately the reality is different. The test has shown that Willy has Stage 4 pancreatic cancer.

The DeVilles want you, Willy’s fans, to be the first to hear about this devastating news. And Nina wants you to know that he has absolute no pain and that he’s being taken care of really really good. And that he jokes about them being in their “bird house”. A nurse comes once a week. The doctor comes once a week and a social worker comes once a week….
This is all the news I have right now, of course the fan club will keep you posted,

Nina originally kept if from the fans but then realized that the fans are the ones that makes him really happy

Willy died today. He was a great friend, a mentor, and a damned fine musician. He will be missed.
