The concept here was to offer some of the best tracks from Pebbles, the humongous series of '60s garage rock rarities that eventually ran into dozens of volumes. Whether this is the best of the lot is a matter of opinion. The compilers' taste runs toward the rawest and most outrageous items, not necessarily the best. But if you're collecting garage rock anthologies selectively, this is an intelligent investment, featuring such garage favorites as Nobody's Children's "Good Times," and the Sparkles' "No Friend of Mine," the Electras' "Action Woman," the Haunted's "1-2-5," and Randy Alvey's infectiously moronic "Green Fuzz." Also worth noting is the original 45 of "Hey Little Bird" by the Barbarians (which wasn't included on their only LP), and the original version of "You're Gonna Miss Me," recorded by the Spades, Roky Erickson's pre-13th Floor Elevators group. ~ Richie Unterberger, All Music Guide
