Ghetto Ways - Solid Brown

Ghetto Ways - Solid Brown

@ 320 kbps - Covers are included

1. get up 2. get down on the git down 3. home in your heart4. say yeah5. beat me down6. boys dollars bars7. ain't goin home8. the na na 9. die for you10. bet on black11. way too late12. are you ready

Solid Brown is a soul trash rock'n'roll deathbeam album full of nitty-gritty, dirty soul and proto-punk rawk titles by our favourite Brooklyn, NYC crime family. Their constant switching of the lead vocals, their luv & fights makes the live show an experience of the anarchic GHETTO WAYS adventure. What is this three piece all about? THIS is a blackly, yet brown garage rock record in its primal sense! The gospel-fervour, the roaring guitars, the stunning soul lead vocals and heartful screams of Jenna Young. The way she sings and rocks her way through "Say Yeah" and "Get Up" is pure class. On Solid Brown she takes the Solomon Burke classic "Home in Your Heart" to a new level. Suspected of poaching in the STAX records box, getting OBLIVIANS, STOOGES, CRIME, DEAD BOYS on the one and DIRTBOMBS, BELLRAYS references on the other hand it's not possible to steer the GHETTO WAYS too far in any direction, which solely speaks for them.

Iggy Pop and the Stooges - Your Pretty Face is gOing to Hell

Iggy Pop and the Stooges - Your Pretty Face is gOing to Hell

@ 320 kbps - Covers are included

1. Head On 2. Death Trip 3. I Got a Right 4. Hard to Beat 5. Cock in My Pocket 6. Rubber Legs 7. Johanna 8. Pin Point Eyes 9. Open up and Bleed 10. Raw Power
Iggy Pop (vocals); James Williamson (guitar); Ron Asheton (bass); Scott Asheton (drums).
Of all the Detroit music royalty the one who most changed the rock scene is IGGY POP. Sure ALICE COOPER brought in theater, Berry Gordy soul and Ted Nugent, venison but IGGY and THE STOOGES brought outrage and bucketloads of it.
No one would think to use glass and peanut butter in such a creative way until IGGY did it. So here now are a few bits and pieces of that outrage gathered on compact disc. The version of "Cock in My Pocket" is worth the purchase price on its own. The radio versions of "Hard to Beat", "Raw Power", prove that once, a long time ago, there really was a radio station worth listening to in Detroit.

Up is one of those "should've been" bands. Similar in sound to Blue Cheer and political philosophy to MC5, Killer Up represents the complete recordings of the Detroit band from the '60s. Save for two singles, none of this material was released by the band while it was still together between 1967-1973. Up was closely aligned with MC5, living with them in the White Panther Party commune in Ann Arbor and often sharing the bill with them at area concerts. But while the Five and fellow Michiganders the Stooges got record deals and fame, Up remained a regional act. The disc features both of Up's singles, plus several songs from a recording session at Head Sound Studios in Ypsilanti, MI, and some live cuts recorded at the Agora Ballroom in Columbus, OH, in 1972. The sound quality is decent, albeit slightly lo-fi. What the recordings lack in polish, they make up with pure energy. High volume cuts like "Just Like an Aborigine" and "Free John Now" are further examples to back up the argument that punk rock was invented in '60s Detroit. It's hard to imagine Up gaining a mass audience, but the music on this disc makes one wonder why the band never broke on a large scale outside of the Midwest. ~ Brian Bowe (All Music Guide)

River Deep Mountain High is the cats meow. Recorded live (though one writer claims that the crowd noise was added in) this band just hands down kicked some serious ass!

THE dt's - Nice'n'Ruff - Hard Soul Hits Vol. 1

@ 320 kbps - Covers are included

1. Crazy 'Bout You Baby 2. Ninety-Nine and a Half (Won't Do) 3. Price of Love 4. Hunter 5. Pagan Baby 6. What's Next to the Moon 7. Big Bird 8. Driving Wheel 9. Move Over 10. Don't Slander Me
If AC/DC decided they wanted to hire a female vocalist and become an R&B band, the results might sound a lot like the Dt's, and that's a serious compliment. As the world's leading purveyors of "hard soul," the Dt's play rough but passionate rock & roll with a punch worthy of Highway to Hell or If You Want Blood You've Got It, and while singer Diana Young-Blanchard might sound a bit like Janis Joplin (and does a killer version of Joplin's classic "Move Over"), she's got the speaker-shattering lung power of Brian Johnson (or even Bon Scott in her best moments), and the comparison would be apt even if this band didn't cover "What's Next to the Moon." The Dt's started out strong with their 2004 debut Hard Fixed, but the band ups the ante in a big way on their sophomore long-player, Nice 'N' Ruff: Hard Soul Hits, Vol. 1, which is louder, prouder and stronger in every respect. ~ Mark Deming, All Music Guide

Parliaments - Testify! - The Best of the Early Years

@ 320 kbps - Covers are included

1. (I Wanna ) Testify 2. I Can Feel The Ice Melting 3. All Your Goodies Are Gone 4. Don't Be Sore At Me 5. Little Man 6. Goose That Laid The Golden Egg 7. Look At What I Almost Missed 8. What You Been Growing 9. Good Old Music 10. Time 11. New Day Begins 12. I'll Wait 13. I'll Wait (Instumental) 14. All Your Goodies Are Gone (Instumental) 15. Baby I Owe You Something (Instrumental) 16. Let's Make It Last - The Fellows 17. She's Always There - The Fellows 18. Heart Trouble 19. That Was My Girl

The Parliaments, which later evolved into Funkadelic and Parliament, consisted of George Clinton, Fuzzy Haskins, Ray Davis, Grady Thomas and Calvin Simon. This is one of the few compilations of their work. Funkier and more polished versions of (I Wanna) Testify, All Your Goodies Are Gone, The Goose That Laid The Golden Egg, Good Old Music, Baby I Owe You Something Good and That Was My Girl would eventually be recorded by Funkadelic and/or Parliament. However, there is something very special about the rawer Temptations-like versions of these songs and the other songs on this CD. It captures an era and it provides PFunk fans a listen to the early stages of George Clinton's incredibly diverse and ever evolving music. If you are a PFunk fan, this CD is a must have for your collection.

Girl, I Don't Dig Your Philosophy 7. She Rocked Our Money For the Last Time 8. I Have Seen the Devil 9. I Sold My Soul to Pay the Rent 10. Let's Go to Molly 'n' Clare's Apartment
So you wanna hear some soulful, dirty, mashed-up, rhythm bound, bluesy, psychedelic, garage dance music? This is it, buddy, and it is good. They have been compared to alot of bands from the Velvet Underground to Gossip, Hot Snakes, The Chesterfield Kings, Caesars, and Richard Hell and the Voidoids. They use an organ sparingly and perfectly, a prominent snare drum, and righteous guitar licks to create something raw, different, and fun to listen to. It is so damn infectious you’ll feel your nervous system jerk rhythmically if exposed to these sonic pollens.

1. Boothill Express 2. Bye Bye Brain 3. Highwayman 4. Free Bird 5. Hard Night's Day 6. Hair of Gold (And Skin of Blue) 7. (The Girl Is) An Unsolved Mystery 8. Ghoulie Family 9. Daughter of Frankenstein 10. I'd Rather Be Alone (Than Be With You) 11. Leprechaun Rock 12. Criswell Predicts... 13. Dancing Late at Night 14. Happy Birthday Song
"Travels With My Amp" marks one of their most polished efforts, on par in every way with "Fun in the Dark." Like that previous album, this one also shoots its wad a bit early. All of the best tracks are right up front and the track list seems to loose momentum towards the end. But the whole Ghoulie experience is so much fun ( right down to the terrific packaging and wacky road map), no true fan will bother complaining much.

Rose Mary 17. Hound Dog [#]
This set is primarily "The Explosive Little Richard" plus two four single sides (two of which came out only in Europe) and three miscellaneous. Of course The Georgia Peach cd is the great one but here Little Richard aged a bit needing a new base of support by the mid-60's, yet he progressed by stretching into more Otis Redding,Wilson Pickett,Motown style of arrangements and style. The beautiful mania is still here but in a more mature studio session style stretching more into traditional r&b,gospel and blues.

The circus is back in town! That punk-n-roll freak sideshow known as the Groovie Ghoulies is on it's way to you. 99 Lives is the exciting but last collection of 13 or so songs that capture all the elements of the Ghoulie lifestyle: art, the love of music, and Disney-esque debauchery. They party differently than most, but they have a Love to Give, and they're serving it up by the shovel full. Described by the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette as "the Rolling Stones as raised on 'Blitzkrieg Bop,'.

This four-piece combo - one of Thrasher Magazine's faves, emerged out of the Richmond District of San Francisco in 1997. Their live performances have them compared to proto-punks The New York Dolls, The Stooges and The Sex Pistols, although their sound, which includes Farfisa keyboards, is equally reminiscent of '60's garage bands.

Roky Erickson - Don't Slander Me

1. Don't Slander Me 2. Haunt 3. Crazy Crazy Mama 4. Nothing In Return 5. Burn The Flames 6. Bermuda 7. You Drive Me Crazy 8. Can't Be Brought Down 9. Starry Eyes 10. Damn Thing Roky Erickson was founding member and lead singer of psychedelic band, Texas’ infamous Thirteenth Floor Elevators. Erickson explored the far reaches of musical and personal extremes. Following a nightmarish '70s mental-hospital stint that had a devastating long-term effect on his mental health, Erickson's subsequent solo work with his group The Aliens revealed a singularly brilliant songwriter and performer whose talent was no less impressive for the fact that he was singing about zombies, vampires and aliens. The demons that abound in Roky's songs are all-too-real reflections of his own troubled psyche, and the combination of the artist's oddly poetic lyrical constructions and his bracing banshee wail makes it clear, as it wasn't always, that he's not kidding! Don’t Slander Me, Recorded during the new wave era, is a rock and roll album, and quite a good one, but it was out of step with the era and found little commercial success. Although the Elevators never sounded particularly "Texan," the Lone Star State is stamped all over Don't Slander Me, particularly the hard-rocking title track and Buddy Holly-influenced "You Drive Me Crazy."

Though they found worldwide fame in 1969, Winnipeg's Guess Who had been scoring scads of hard-rockin' hits in Canada for years, beginning with 1965's ferocious rendition of 'Shakin' All Over.' Spurred by the unearthing of a bevy of vintage master tapes-and with the help of Guess Who guitarist Randy Bachman - the Sundazed label gathered 24 of The Guess Who's hardest-hitting, most awesome recordings from '63-'67. With many tracks in true stereo and a handful of cuts that haven't seen daylight for more than 30 years, Shakin' All Over! is the ultimate distillation of the seismic sound of the early Guess Who.
