Take It Easy 11. I'd Give All I Got 12. Far Far Away 13. Why Is Love 14. Last Minute Rush [*] 15. Christmastime With You [*] 16. Midnight Mass [*]

The songs, all original compositions, were recorded and self produced during the summer of 1983, at Dubway Studios in Manhattan, using a 1/4" four track, reel to reel tape machine. Legend has it that the album was recorded in one marathon, fourteen hour session. And originally, that was the goal. The Cheepskates entered the studio at ten o'clock on a Saturday night, and over the next thirteen and a half hours, all of the musical tracks on fifteen songs were recorded. But as the microphones were being set up for the vocal tracks at eleven-thirty the following Sunday morning, everyone realized they were all completely exhausted. So within a few weeks of that initial recording session, the vocals were recorded, and the tunes were mixed and completed.
In the spring of 1984, Midnight Records signed the band and released the album, selecting thirteen of the original fifteen songs that were recorded. It was titled after the single, Run Better Run. In 1994, Music Maniac re-released the album on CD for the first time. Along with the previously released thirteen tracks, the CD contained three "bonus" tracks. Two of which were previously available on a Midnight Records Christmas compilation, and a third from the same "Christmas" sessions, which had never been released.

Ever since the release of the 1972 Nuggets: Original Artyfacts comp there have been bands like the Creeps, and most likely there always will be. The Swedish act aims squarely at mid-'60s garage rock, aping the bands that aped the Yardbirds, but thanks to inspired playing and inventive arrangements, they succeed in adding to the tradition rather than just running in place. Recorded with period-appropriate atmosphere (i.e. a thick, dirty echo), the Creeps bang out a couple of covers and nine originals that channel the Animals and Them, delivered with power and precision.

The Headless Horsemen arose out of the ashes of The Tryfles and The Fuzztones. Originally, the final Tryfles’ drummer, Celia Farber, hit the kit, but Dave Ari soon replaced her. Also on board was Chris Cush (who some know from Mojo Guitars and had been in a punk band called The Amps in the early ’80s). For awhile there, the Horsemen were one of the best bands around. They did some great recordings, too: just check the title track, "Can't help but shake" or "Gotta be cool" to be convinced! Get it.

Of all the Beat groups to come down the pike in recent years, one of the most remarkable was the Kaisers. From 1993 to 2002, this Edinburgh quartet released five studio and one live LP of the purest beat-group sounds this side of Hamburg's Star-Club. Clad in skintight trousers and sporting mile-high quiffs, they were essentially the Fab Four before that group started combing their hair over their foreheads. "Liquorice Twitch," "She's Gonna Two Time," "She's Only Doggin' Around," "Don't Come Back" and a couple of slow(er) tunes, "Like I Do" and "Don't Go With Him," will have you doublechecking to make sure you aren't listening to some early lost Beatle bootleg.

In the early 1980s, when a large portion of the underground youth in San Diego were obsessed with the Psychedelic music and fashion of swinging '60s London, a band who went by the name of Crawdaddys were already doing something a little different: less fuzz-box and more R&B saturated. The Crawdaddys played rock 'n' roll in the spirit of the Pretty things imitating Chuck Berry, Otis Redding and Little Richard.

Probably THEE best compilation of Michigan rock from the '60s and one of the very best garage-oriented compilations of the era, and a pretty diverse one too. There's hot White soul from the Rationals, a rare single by the Amboy Dukes, raw folk-rock from the Human Beinzs and the Underdogs, burning garage punk from the Unrelated Segments, and even a castrato Four Seasons imitation by Tim Tam & the Turn-Ons. The heart of the collection, however, are the five early, pre-Elektra sides by the MC5, which are garage rock at its most metallic and furious, and the mid-'60s hard rock sides by Bob Seger, a good decade before he broke nationally.

If you want female fronted pop punk, then there's only one record label you should be interested in. Teenacide records in California specialise in music influenced by bands like the Runaways, the Go-Gos, Blondie and all points in between (with more than a touch of Helen Love thrown in for good measure). http://www.teenaciderecords.com/

MAKE A MOVE by The CHECKERS is incredibly catchy Californian pop punk played at a breakneck pace while singer Julie Vox sings semi-comprehensible lyrics over the top - like the bands above, but also sounding now and then like the Rezillos.

A Swedish pop-punk band widely revered in their homeland as godfathers of the late-'90s explosion of Swedish guitar pop bands, Psychotic Youth was formed in the late '80s by singer/guitarist/songwriter Jorgen Westman. Primarily a power pop band most influenced by late-'70s bands like the Shoes and the Plimsouls, Psychotic Youth also assimilated influences from new wave to Stooges-derived garage punk to Beach Boys-ish surf music. The group's first U.S. releases appeared in 1990 with the albums Some Fun and Be in the Sun.

9.Not Right (The Stooges)

10.A Child of a Few Hours (The West Coast Pop Art Experimental Band)

This short CD of 10 cover songs with an appreciation for ‘60s garage pop and rock. But that’s mostly due to the cover choices, all of which date from that point in time. Dropout! is a tribute to the bands that helped shape Baby Woodrose’s sound. While the songs may be from one particular point in time, the range is varied – spanning from the sweet pop of Love’s "Can't Explain" to the psychedelic rock of Captain Beefheart and His Magic Band’s “Dropout Boogie” to the nihilistic rage of The Stooges’ “Not Right.”" This is a great record and it will take you back in time, Baby Woodrose style!
